CENTENNIAL CORNER
OUTREACH: One hundred years of the Maronite Community of Wilkes-Barre is rapidly approaching. As an outreach effort we would like to contact those who have moved away or left our community. If you know people that we should contact, please give us their names, addresses and phone numbers. Drop the information in the collection basket or call Pete at 822-7947 or 498-1139, or notify the rectory.
ORAL HISTORY: A project for our Centennial is an oral history of life in our community from “way back when.” We would like to interview our older members to be recorded on a DVD. We feel that these people can offer us, our children and our grand-children so much. We have a list of those that we would like to interview, but we do not want to forget anyone. If you know anyone who should be part of this project, please contact Pete at 822-7947 or 498-1139 or notify the rectory with the particulars.
FOOD FESTIVAL: Sponsor forms were mailed this week for the Food Festival. We thank you in advance for your generous support. If anyone needs additional forms they are in the back of the churches. Please call Cheri McGrane at 287-2695 or her cell phone number 814-4660 or e-mail her at cmcgrane@comcast.net with any questions.
THANK YOU: Our sincere “thanks” to Raymond Bedwick for the purchase of two crowns for our Blessed Virgin Mary; one for St. George Chapel and one for St. Anthony+St. George Church. A beautiful tribute to our Heavenly Mother.
BASKET BINGO: Be sure and mark your calendar for Sunday, October 17, for an afternoon of basket bingo at St. Anthony+St. George Church, Park Avenue. Doors will open at 12:30 and bingo will begin at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $15.00 for 15 regular games and 2 specials. Food, snacks and drinks will be available. Assumption Prayer
Dearest Mother, when you died God raised your holy body
and soul into heaven. Intercede for us that we may
persevere in doing His will in our lives,
as you have done while you were here on earth.
Heal our tired body, wearied mind and restless spirit
that we may always rest in your motherly care.
Mary, holy advocate, hear our prayers
(mention your intention)
and cover us with your healing love. In honor of your glorious
Assumption, I pray one Our Father, three Hail
Marys and one Glory be. Amen

Make a point
A worried woman went to her gynecologist and said, ”Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help! My baby is not even 1 year old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together.” So the doctor said: “Okay and what do you want me to do?” She said: “I want you to end my pregnancy, and I’m counting on your help with this.”
The doctor
thought for a little while, and after some silence he said to the lady: “I think
I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for you too.”
She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.
Then he continued: “You see, in order for you not to have to take care of two
babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms.
This way you could rest some before the other one
is born. If we're going to kill one of them, it doesn't matter which one it is.
There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.”
The lady was horrified and said: “No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to kill a child!” ”I agree”, the doctor replied. “But you seemed to be okay with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution.” The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point. He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's already been born and one that's still in the womb.
The crime is the same!
